Introduction

Building Everbright Bank's Operations and Monitoring System in a Cloud-Native Environment

Bonree leverages its end-to-end application performance monitoring capabilities to fully support Everbright Bank’s full-stack cloud platform. It enables the collection and analysis of trace, metric, and log data from cloud-native services. By correlating frontend and backend data, the system provides insight into application availability and operational status, enabling root cause analysis down to the code level.

Background Analysis

1. Ensuring Business Stability as Digital Transformation Deepens

As digital transformation advances, a pressing challenge for bank IT support departments is how to maintain stable business operations while rapidly and efficiently meeting ever-evolving business needs.

2. Observability Challenges in a Cloud-Native Environment

In a cloud-native environment, visualizing application scheduling becomes complex, and it is difficult to clearly present and analyze service call relationships. This makes it challenging to locate and reconstruct failure scenarios, posing significant difficulties for business system operations and troubleshooting.

3. China Everbright Bank Upholds a Technology-Driven Strategy and Prioritizes Fintech Innovation

China Everbright Bank places great emphasis on fintech innovation. It has built an independently controllable technology middle platform and completed the construction of a full-stack cloud platform that fully supports cloud-native technologies. This supports the bank’s digital transformation strategy and enables the shift from mainframe-based operations to distributed architecture-based operations.

Application Scenario

1. Establishing an Application Performance Scoring System to Quantitatively Assess Application Operations

Bonree helped China Everbright Bank build an application performance scoring system to comprehensively evaluate metrics related to application performance and user experience. The scoring system uses Apdex, response time, and error rate as evaluation criteria. Through a weighted 100-point scale, it calculates the performance score of application systems, enabling rapid insight into their overall operational status and facilitating quantitative assessment.

2.Full-Link Monitoring and Tracing to Enhance Observability in Cloud-Native Environments

Bonree through its automatic TraceID injection technology, enables China Everbright Bank to monitor and trace the complete execution path of applications from entry point onward. It also automatically generates a program call topology map. During synchronization, application performance is visualized with color-coded indicators—green for excellent/normal, yellow for slow, and red rings indicating error rate proportions. This intuitive visualization helps identify performance issues at a glance, enhances observability in cloud-native environments, enables rapid fault localization, and allows for timely analysis of the impact scope.

3. Code-Level Fault Localization: Intuitively Identify Where Slow Requests Occur

Using technologies such as bytecode instrumentation and its proprietary SuperTrace, Bonree enables comprehensive monitoring of China Everbright Bank’s application execution in memory. By scanning method stack entries and exits in real time and capturing method call relationships and timings, the local agent reports this data for analysis. This allows for intuitive identification of where slow requests occur and the exact sequence of method calls, providing precise, code-level fault localization.

4. Achieve Correlated Issue Analysis for Rapid Fault Root Cause Identification

Bonree enables correlated issue analysis by examining infrastructure metrics (such as CPU, memory, and JVM) at the time of a fault. Through event, timestamp, and node-level correlation, it links APM data with infrastructure monitoring data. This synchronized analysis reveals how infrastructure metrics change during application performance issues, making it possible to quickly identify the root cause of faults.

5. From Code to Customer, Gaining True Insight into User Experience

Bonree has implemented Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM) for China Everbright Bank’s front-end applications—such as online and mobile banking. With its DEM solution, the bank can accurately capture users’ real-world performance experiences and issues, and build an end-to-end monitoring system that spans from the user interface down to the underlying code.
